Know before you give.

Every registered charity in Canada files a return with the CRA, and all of it is public. CharityMonitor puts it in front of you in plain English: what a charity took in, what it spent, and what it reports paying its highest earners.

Find a charity

Searching every registered charity by name and city.

Note:

Early build. Every registered Canadian charity that filed for 2024 — 83,761 in total. Search works; the financial pages behind it are still being built.

What this will do

One of these works today. The rest are marked.

Look it up

Start with the charity in front of you.

  • Find a charity

Search every registered Canadian charity by name, city or business number.

  • Notes

How to read what charities file: the disbursement quota, pay bands, and why the newest figures are two years old.

Follow the money

What the charity reported to the CRA.

  • Charity profile

What a charity took in and what it spent, year over year, with the breakdown wherever it was filed.

  • Executive pay bands

How many of a charity’s ten highest-paid staff fall in each pay band. Canada discloses bands, not names.

  • Compare charities

Two to four charities side by side, on the lines they both actually filed.

Before you give

Receipts, tax, and whether a registration still stands.

What the data does not say

Four things worth knowing before you read any figure on this site.

It is roughly two years behind

Charities have six months to file and the CRA publishes annually. The most recent figures are the most recent filed — never “current”.

A blank line is not a zero

Smaller charities may file a simplified return. Four in five leave the fundraising line empty — which means unknown, not none.

Nobody audits it

The T3010 is self-reported. A charity showing very low program spending has often mis-entered a line, not wasted your money.

Pay is bands, not names

Canada publishes how many of the ten highest-paid staff fall in each band. No names, no individual salaries — and none can be inferred.
